The Celestial Bodies in the Major Arcana: An Afternoon with the Star, Moon & Sun

$35.00
sold out

“Nature is more and better than a plan in course of realization…The role of life is to insert some indetermination into matter. Indeterminate, i.e. unforeseeable, are the forms it creates in the course of its evolution.”

—Henri Bergson, Creative Evolution

In Meditations on the Tarot, the Anonymous author suggests that the celestial bodies in the major arcana are spiritual exercises to do with becoming. The Star represents the “unknown force that takes place in the process of becoming.” The Moon is the “agent of diminution” or “retrograde movement.” And the Sun, perhaps surprisingly, represents intuition. Taken together, these three cards reflect philosopher Henri Bergson’s idea—from his 1907 text Creative Evolution—that “the living being is above all a thoroughfare.”

During this three-hour afternoon session, I’ll offer brief overviews of the Star, Moon and Sun informed by Anonymous’ letters on these cards in Meditations and Bergson’s work on the forces of instinct, intelligence, and intuition.

After reviewing each card, I’ll offer writing prompts for participants to respond to before we move on to the next celestial body. The writing prompts will be formed in the spirit of Anonymous’ idea that the major arcana are “spiritual exercises,” or practically and transformative actions that we can learn something from by engaging.

To wrap up, participants will be invited to reflect together on the process and the meanings that have been made.

This session is for live participation only, and will not be recorded.

The cost to attend is $35.

When: Sunday, November 15, 2026 from 2pm-5pm ET

Where: On Zoom
